Hello friends! Today’s post is a bit of a mish mash, so bear with me as I do a little housekeeping {much prefer this kind to the real thing
!}
The Goods
I received some lovely comments over on Brooklyn Limestone after my guest post {thank you!}, and many were wondering some of the sources for items I used in Ben’s room. Here’s a quick rundown:
- striped sheets – Alfred Sung for Zellers
- linen duvet cover – sewed by moi, fabric from Designer Fabrics in Toronto {they are great, will mail samples too!}
- bedskirt – basic white bedskirt from Zellers, with linen edging added by me
- white with red border euro sham – Pottery Barn
- sock monkey – either Urban Barn or Walmart….I’ve seen them at both.
- red cotton cableknit blanket and pillow – Alfred Sung for Zellers
- bedside table – vintage from The Sellution {a Vancouver consignment furniture store}, refinished by me
- lamp – Homesense
- alarm clock – Liberty
- picture frames – Walmart, Homesense, and Ikea
- “vintage” travel posters for framing – Cavallini & Co. For an online seller of these products, I found THIS ONE you can check out.
- baskets – Superstore
- car roadmap rug – Ikea
- headboard – Target {note that once I received the headboard the colour was all wrong, sort of that crayon “skin” colour…I removed the nailhead trim, wrapped & stapled the linen herringbone fabric on, then re-attached the nailheads}
- nautrical flags – Land of Nod
- faux bamboo chair – vintage
- antique highboy dresser – vintage, Kerrisdale Design
- round mirror – Superstore, was white but I painted it black
- red lacquer box – Homesense
- wooden dog – Kerrisdale Design
- closet shelving – Ikea
- vintage trophy – Ebay
Work It
I’ve been taking WAY too long trying to find a desk for the office. After a few misses on Ebay looking for the perfect antique one, I’ve decided I’ll buy new and have found two {from one of my suppliers} that I’m loving. Both are the perfect size for my space, the challenge is which style to go with! Help me decide!
And to refresh your memory, they’ll be paired with this chair.

Ikea Affair
Since I mentioned I did a minor Ikea-hack and dressed up Carys new Gulliver highchair with a coat of paint, I’ve had requests to see the “after” pictures. Here is the lady modeling her new throne:

Merci Beaucoup
I wanted to take a moment to say a big THANK YOU you to Emily A. Clark and Victoria at Design Ties for featuring my work on your sites. They are two of the most sweet & kind people I’ve met through blogging and I admire them greatly. I can’t tell you how surprised/thrilled/excited I was to be featured and I can’t thank them enough!

Freckle Face
And now for something completely random….came across these pictures the other day on a favorite Tumblr site, Mary Ruffle. Aren’t these gorgeous black and white photos? Though truth be told, I generally don’t think about the fact that I have freckles {and lot’s of them} these photos make me glad I do. Yup, totally random Friday thoughts….

Have a wonderful, sunny weekend!

This is the prettiest link round-up/mish mash post I’ve seen.
Office desks! I’d go with the 3-drawer one, only to keep pens/paper separate from ipod chargers & whatever else ends up in a desk. Although the other one does give a nice ledge to put your feet on (not exactly esthetic help!).
Bon weekend!
My pick is desk #1. Love the detailing on the legs, and as Lauren said, the three drawers are handy. I can see the bar in desk #2 getting in the way at times. Plus I think the chair will look better with #1. Have I sold you on #1 yet?!
The highchair looks great!!
Enjoy your weekend,
Kelly
So many topics, so little time! I think I’m in love with desk number one and your chubby little cherub. I could just eat her cheeks! That revamped high chair looks like an antique, lol!
Karla,
I love the three drawer desk. Not only is it more functional with three drawers, those legs and pulls are such a great shape – they really complement the chair in a cheeky (that’s a good thing) and sort of flirty feminine way.
The black and white photos are gorgeous – I love when a photographer is able to capture the essence of a person.
Thanks for posting.
Catherine
Hi Karla,
Plus Ben’s room looks fab.
Just started following your blog, and I’m loving it!
My 2 cents worth – love desk number 2 for the clean lines and the Ikea hack job you did was very stylish!
Desk #2 is my favorite except #1 has better storage options. Where did you find desk #2?
Love the first desk. Ben’s room looks fantastic, love it!
Forgot to mention that my son has the same headboard from Target!! He has the chocolate brown with nailhead detail.
Love Ben’s room, desk #1 and the high chair. Carys is a doll too! We’re having a very rainy weekend here:(
Thanks for posting all the goods on Ben’s room. It is stunning!
Would you mind sharing the names of the linen fabrics from Designer’s Fabrics? I have been several times to the store and always find it overwhelming.
I believe you said that the fabrics on the headboard and duvet were both from there.
I love your blog! Very inspirational.
Thanks, Michelle
Hi Marg. It’s from a fav furniture manufacturer of mine. It’s to the trade only, but if you want info on it drop me an email and I’d be happy to provide you with pricing, measurements, etc.
Hi Michelle,
I have only been to Designer fabrics online, never in person…I can imagine it’s crazy in person! I went online to check if they still carry the fabric I used, and they don’t. It was a unique colour for linen…sort of a dark taupe with green undertones. As for the headboard fabric, it was actually not from Designer Fabrics, but a leftover piece I had around from another project. I purchased it orginally at Arlene’s Interiors here in Vancouver. It was a heavy Herrinbone weave. Click HERE for a picture. I have no clue whether they still carry it. Sorry I can’t be of more help! Designer Fabrics is totally worth ordering a bunch of samples from to try, I’ve found them to be wonderful to work with.
Karla
PS glad you like the blog! Thanks for stopping by
Karla I love the freckle photos! Funny story, I had a barbie when I was little, I think her name was Midge? She had freckles and I loved them and wanted freckles so badly!! I remember wishing for them all the time!
Nancy
Karla, I’m a fan of those curvy legs on the desk in the top photo! My pick, for sure.
Plus, three drawers are better than one! Good luck with your office design.
Karla,
I love Ben’s bedroom-very classic. Still trying to finish up all the kids rooms. I am trying to find bedding for my son’s room. Found some great Bay blankets on clearance in Banff and am hoping to find them here (hubby said no room in the car for any large purchases – crumb!)
Love the desks as well, #1 is my choice! As for the Ikea hack – looks so classy in black. I had a similar booster chair that I painted and monogrammed for my neice:

Happy Summer!
