Wallpaper for Wee Ones

When decorating for my tiny clients, {just as for my grown up ones} I always aim to create a space with staying power….timeless, classic, with pieces and patterns they won’t tire of easily. With the kiddie clients however {though I’m the first to steer clear of theme-y rooms or tv charactors or anything else stereotypically “kid”} I never want to leave out the FUN. Wallpapers can be a fabulous way to add interest & whimsy and be a great jumping off point for the rest of the child’s room {as it was in my daughter’s bedroom}. Here are a few lovely wallpapers I think have that youthful, fun vibe that would make ANY client pretty pleased.

I imagine this paper would be great on a feature wall in a bedroom, or in framed large panels in a prominent spot. Remember the Design Inc episode where Sarah and the team did a nursery design for triplets? They used a similar pattern, also called Best In Show but from Thibault. You can see it HERE and comes in a few other colourways! Lot’s of possibilities for a boy or a girl.

This butterfly pattern is a little more understated, and you could imagine it covering all four walls of a little girls room! The butterflies have a lovely palette of colours you could choose from for fabrics…..how about going tiffany blue and green or raspberry pink and taupe?

Now what says little girl more than pretty old fashioned cameos??? This pattern comes in a few colourways, again giving lots of options for bedding and other details. I like the idea of pairing this paper with tons of fresh white, balancing the old fashioned flavour with a clean modern stylings.

One of Vivienne Westwood’s designs for Cole & Son, the squiggle is delightful and fun. I love the blue, but it also comes in fresh yellow, red, and a few other colourways….gender neutral and a pattern than teens would love too!

Here are some of my favorite kid’s rooms featuring wallpaper….perhaps they’ll provide you with some inspiration for creating a fun space for your little one!

Pottery Barn gets in on the fun with a classic motif for a girls room!

Sarah used a fun tropical print in this girls room for a South Surrey lottery home. I remember touring the home, the bedroom in person was wonderful!

Circus wallpaper  for Viv’s son at Ish and Chi

Moulding trimmed floral paper for Christina’s girls at Fullhouse blog

Though not a print, this grasscloth paper adds fantastic texture and a handsome feel to this boys room

Maps!

And of course, you can’t EVER go wrong with stripes!

Hope you are all having a great Monday!

  1. How adorable! I love all the great ideas you presented for our little ones. I’m currently helping my neighbor with their kids rooms. They are my favorite spaces to work in!

They’re so lovely – it’d break my heart to see them get covered in crayon and, I dunno, Hannah Montana stickers. Always fantastic to see kids’ rooms diverge from pink & blue. Dog wallpaper makes me smile.

  3. I LOVE all of these examples Karla! The ones Sarah Richardson used are so fun, I remember the nursery for triplets episode!! And if parents were worried about these lovely papers being destroyed – maybe some kind of beadboard on the lower portion of the wall which could just be painted out white if there are any crayon ‘accidents’ etc?

These are all so pretty and perfectly whimsical :)

Great selection, Karla! I would use the dog wallpaper (the first) to back bookshelves full of books and baskets of toys, and I love the idea of grasscloth in children’s room (especially high up, like in the photo, so it doesn’t get damaged but still provides the look.)
