Well, lovely Ally of From the Right Bank has been hosting another challenge to define your style in one picture. Yikes! Since I saw this I’ve been waffling, scrounging through my photo files trying, TRYING, to narrow it down. Very, very hard. Picking a pretty picture is very easy, but picking a picture that sums up YOUR decorating style perfectly is tricky indeed. Well ladies and gentlemen, I’ve done it {er, well let’s say it 96% perfectly fits!}

Michael Angus of beloved Toronto boutique Angus & Company   has been a favorite of mine for ages. I have always admired his home, and testiment to its timeless quality is the fact that I love it as much now as I did about eight years ago when I first got a peek.

{ok, ok, I know it was ONE PICTURE but these are just other views of the same room!}

 Details that make it ME~

  • crisp, gallery-like walls {panelling detail in spots}
  • dark wood floors
  • black doors
  • modern art
  • THE MIX – some modern, some traditional, some antiques
  • neutral palette
  • textural {baskets, fabrics etc}
  • touches of green plants/flowers
  • a little sparkle with mirros, lucite, and crystal
  • not uptight – comfortable and livable while still being very stylish

One thing missing {only one Michael, otherwise it’s perfection!} is a touch of graphic pattern. I LOVE a hit of graphic or geometric fabric in pillows or rugs {how about a nice striped dhurri rug or a few Thomas Paul pillows?}

Thanks Ally for hosting this fun {and very grueling at times!} exercise! If you have a moment, head on over to Ally’s wonderful blog to see more of your favorite bloggers answers to the What’s Your Style in One Picture Challenge.

    Great room — love the dark doors. And yes, a touch of a graphic pattern would kick it up a notch :-)

    Gorgeous! Very relaxed yet elegant with the black doors and white walls.

  3. I love this choice Karla, and I agree with Kelly…those dark doors are amazing. I love all the white and definitely the paneling!! So chic but comfortable at the same time.

  4. What a great space – and I’ve never seen it before so that makes it even better. I like all the elements you pointed out and one more thing – that Hermes blanket on the couch. :) Thanks so much for participating in my challenge!

    I know. I watched this video on Canadian House and Home and saved it to my favorite links. I love it!

    Great choice Karla… I agree the dark wood floors and black doors really lift the neutral colour palette.

  7. I hate to admit it, but this room defines my style as well (hard to pick just one photo). Love the simplicity of the furniture and colour palette mixed in with wood and antiques. LOVE it. I too agree a pop of colour of graphic pattern would really spice things up!

    That just means we aren’t alone in our good taste Barbara ;)
