Entryway Console – Before and After

As promised, here is the reveal of the entryway console we did re-did to better fit our decor.

A Craigslist find, this console helps to keep our lives a little more organized. The bottom section has two levels of shelving where we keep the kids shoes, mittens, hats, etc. as well as my purse (or Miss Carys will steal it, open it up and I’ll find credit cards, licenses, and other important items strewn throughout the house!). The top drawer was one big space, to which I added little bamboo boxes to divide it into sections- pens, spare change, receipts, keys, wallets, blackberry’s, mail.

Here is the BEFORE:

And here is the AFTER:

{DETAILS}

Thanks for taking a peek!

PS I’m taking part in “Metamorphisis Monday” at Between Naps on the Porch Blog. Head on over there starting tomorrow to see some other great Before and Afters!

Just beautiful. I would never have believed that the original piece would turn out like this. could you comment on what paint you used
    Thanks

  2. Hi Sharon – thank you! Try a porch and floor enamel. As for colour, if I want black I tell the person at the paint store to use black pigment only (some of the other “black” colours have other pigment in it too) and max out how much they add. Using an oil base gives really good results, but it can be a bit time consuming (ie drying time) and then there is the odour and cleanup issue. There are some great latex products that are good alternatives. I’ve also had good success with Benjamin Moore “Aura” paint in the satin finish.

    Karla,
Is the hardware nickel? This piece is a signature of everything that you do-Classic and stunning!
I feel very lucky own a few of your refurbished pieces and I can’t wait to see more of your projects. I miss shopping at Kerrisdale Design for my weekly fix! Keep inspiring us!

  4. Hi Kate…its actually old (quite aged looking) brass hardware. A departure from my usual nickel :) but I’m seeing so much mixing of metal everywhere lately, that I thought I’d change things up a little!

  5. I love it! It really turned out gorgeous. I think your choice of hardware is quite stunning as well.

P.S. Just because I am paying attention to accessories lately, I absolutely love the punch of green!!

Beautiful! I love how it turned out. Where did you get your branch from?? I have something similar I bought at The Cross for a client and for myself but I think I like yours better! I also love your choice of brass hardware. It is a nice change from nickel. Well Done.

  9. Thanks Andrea. The branch is sandblasted manzanita (which I loved after seeing a few of Michael Angus’s rooms with it!) that I got from http://www.bloomsandbranches.com/ – Karla

  10. You’re so sweet Margaret, thank you! I’ll be posting photos as soon as rooms get completed…my son’s Ben’s room is the closest right now and I hope to take some pictures next week. :) Keep reading!

While the console turned out terrifically, the vingette you’ve arranged on the top – along with that lovely mirror – looks FAB! Love the shots of colour!!
