About the Artist

Karla Amadatsu was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. A self taught artist, Karla began painting “on a whim” while on maternity leave. She says with a laugh, “I really had no choice in the matter! Having a family tree ripe with artists, I figure paint is in the blood!”

Karla paints what is loosely termed “contemporary landscapes”. Her art is not literal, but rather the focus is on texture and the play of colors on the canvas, with a nod to the distant lines of sky and earth. She aims to leave room for individual interpretation, letting the viewer bring their own perspective to the piece.About her art philosophy, Karla states “I consider my work to be art in its purest form – art the way it was meant to be. Meaning, there is nothing complex about my work, there is nothing to ‘get’. I create work that is unpretentious. It is meant to be enjoyed and to bring pleasure, nothing more. My goal is to produce pieces that my clients enjoy bringing into their homes and that add beauty day after day“.

Having a broad appeal, Karla’s work has been met with resounding success, gracing the pages of such publications as Style at Home Magazine and Canadian Home and Country. Pieces can be found in both corporate and private collections, with new work available exclusively through Karla’s interior design firm, Kerrisdale Design Inc.

Karla is an interior designer & blogger, a wife, and a mother. She resides in South Surrey, BC with her husband and two children.
